317L stainless steel pipe advantage
317L stainless steel pipe (UNS S31703) for applications that require higher corrosion resistance than 304 and 316 stainless steel pipes. Alloy 317L stainless steel tubes have higher corrosion resistance austenite content relative to alloy 316L due to the addition of approximately one percent molybdenum.The additional molybdenum gives 317L stainless steel alloy tubing greater resistance to chloride and other halides, particularly making it a strong candidate for offshore applications or processing applications such as pulp and paper processes that involve such corrosive environments. Through improved chemical properties, 317L alloy tubes have higher creep, stress fracture and tensile strength at high temperatures compared to conventional stainless steel tubes.
